Information about listed businesses

We list fire and security businesses using publicly available information: Google Business Profiles, the businesses' own websites, Companies House and the BAFE, NSI and SSAIB registers. This is mostly business information. For sole traders and partnerships it can include personal information, such as a name, business phone number or business email address.

We use it to help people find and compare fire and security companies. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests: buyers benefit from an accurate directory, and we only use business contact details already made public by the business.

You can ask us to correct or remove a listing through our claim page. If you are a sole trader or partnership and you object, we will remove your listing.

We may email or phone listed businesses about their listing, or to offer Premium or Best-of places. We follow the rules for business marketing, check phone numbers against the Telephone Preference Service and Corporate Telephone Preference Service, and stop as soon as you ask.

Information you send us

When you use the claim form, the contact form or email us, we collect what you give us, usually your name, job role, business name, email, phone number and message. We use it to deal with your request and keep a record of changes made to listings. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests, or taking steps towards a contract if you ask about a paid listing.

Premium and Best-of customers

If your business buys a Premium listing or Best-of place, we keep the billing name, business address, email, what you bought and when. Payments are made via bank transfer or handled by Stripe, which processes your card details under its own privacy policy. We never see or store card numbers. Our lawful bases are performing our contract with you and meeting our legal duties to keep financial records.

Website visitors and cookies

Our website host keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses and the pages requested, to keep the site secure and working. We use only the cookies needed to run the site unless you agree to others through our cookie banner. You can change your choices at any time using the cookie settings link in the footer. With your consent, we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site.

Who we share information with

We don't sell personal information. We share it only with services that help us run the directory, under contracts that require them to protect it:

We may also share information if the law requires it. Where a service stores data outside the UK, we rely on the safeguards UK law requires, such as an adequacy decision or approved contract terms.

How long we keep it

Your rights

You have the right to ask for a copy of your personal information, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive it in a portable format. Email listings@fireandsecuritycompanies.co.uk and we'll reply within one month.
